About the Company

An established and growing asset manager is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel with deep expertise in alternative funds to join its in-house legal team. The ideal candidate is a 7+ year qualified lawyer (Ontario or New York) with a combination of top-tier private practice and in-house experience , particularly in advising on liquid strategies including hedge funds and other alternative investment vehicles.

About the Role

This is a high-impact, visible role offering strategic influence and long-term career opportunity within a well-capitalized and entrepreneurial asset management firm. The role is 4 days per week in office (one day per week WFH).

Responsibilities

• Advise on the structuring, formation, maintenance, and ongoing governance of alternative funds, including hedge funds and other liquid strategies.
• Provide strategic legal advice on fund documentation, offering materials, investor negotiations, and regulatory considerations.
• Capital markets and securities law.
• Collaborate with investment, compliance, and operations teams on fund launches, marketing, cross-border considerations, and product development.
• Ensure compliance with applicable Canadian and U.S. securities laws and global regulatory requirements.
• Manage external counsel relationships and support legal risk mitigation initiatives across the firm.

Qualifications

• 7+ years’ post-qualification experience (Ontario or New York qualified).
• Extensive experience advising on alternative investment funds , particularly hedge funds and liquid asset structures.
• Proven track record in private practice at a leading law firm , combined with in-house legal experience at a fund manager, asset manager, or similar financial institution.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian and/or U.S. securities regulation , fund structuring, and investor disclosure obligations.
• Business-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, sophisticated environment.

Required Skills

Deep expertise in alternative funds, particularly hedge funds and liquid asset structures.

Preferred Skills

Experience in both private practice and in-house legal roles.
