Job Description

Interim Vice-President, GreenShield Cares (Mat Leave Coverage)

Location: Toronto, Ontario

GreenShield champions better health for all as a non-profit, purpose-driven social enterprise delivering innovative health care and insurance solutions across Canada.

When it comes to health, we’re always looking for ways to push for better. It’s why we were founded in the first place. In 1957, our founder, pharmacist William Wilkinson, witnessed a mother sacrifice her health by forgoing her own medicine to pay for her sick daughter’s prescription. He knew there had to be a better way. So, he introduced North America’s first prepaid drug plan, and GreenShield was born as a non-profit with a mission to support better health for all Canadians.

We aren’t just a health care and insurance company. We’re the only non-profit social enterprise that brings worlds of coverage and care together, all in one place.

We’re noble challengers, purposefully building a better way and we need the best people to help us create a more holistic approach that takes care of the mind and body.

Our mission is to create better health for all Canadians, and we know that starts with our employees.

The role

The Vice-President, GreenShield Cares (12-month maternity leave cover ) is a senior leadership role responsible for advancing GreenShield’s social impact agenda. Reporting to the EVP, Marketing, Corporate Affairs, and Cares, this leader will guide a team of professionals in delivering GreenShield’s signature initiatives in areas such as youth mental health, women’s health, essential medicines, and chronic disease management.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership to ensure initiatives deliver measurable health outcomes at scale, with a focus on supporting underserved populations.
  • Build and sustain partnerships across sectors — from governments and community organizations to corporate and academic partners — to drive collective impact.
  • Strengthen GreenShield’s role as a convener and thought leader, using data, storytelling, and collaboration to advance health equity in Canada.
  • Advance social sector credibility by positioning GreenShield as a recognized purpose-driven leader through thought leadership, high-visibility partnerships, industry awards, sector publications, and media features.
  • Deliver enterprise-wide reporting and storytelling, including the annual Impact Report and other digital-first communications, to increase awareness, engagement, and trust with key stakeholders.
  • Drive measurable impact by scaling and deepening Signature Initiatives to positively impact 465,000 lives annually, progress toward 3 million cumulative lives by 2030, and expand into new provinces, populations, and models of care.
  • Launch and expand the Chronic Disease Management initiative, starting with diabetes, and position GreenShield as a national leader in chronic disease prevention and management.
  • Mobilize $21M in annual investments (including $2.7M in match funds), ensuring 70%+ allocation to Signature Initiatives and advancing the long-term plan to deliver $200M in cumulative investment by 2030.
  • Integrate social impact with business priorities by embedding the Cares value proposition into enterprise growth strategies, supporting $20M+ in annual revenue linked to social impact, and advancing initiatives such as GS4SB and Student Block partnerships.
  • Embed CSV principles across the enterprise by developing toolkits, training programs, and capability-building sessions to help functional teams unlock both social and commercial value.
  • Advance impact measurement frameworks and dashboards that integrate clinically relevant health outcomes and demonstrate depth, attribution, and long-term change.
  • Foster purpose-driven employees by driving ≥85% participation in volunteering and giving, scaling engagement programs like Cares Ambassadors, Give Local, and Donation Matching, and activating Windsor-based employees through local initiatives.
  • Foster a purpose-driven culture, inspiring employees and embedding GreenShield’s Creating Shared Value (CSV) strategy across the enterprise.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of GreenShield Cares and help redefine what it means for a non-profit, payer-provider to create meaningful social impact at scale.

To succeed in this role

You are a purpose-driven leader who thrives in complex environments and can balance social impact with enterprise priorities. You inspire teams, influence stakeholders, and translate vision into measurable outcomes.

You succeed in this role by:

  • Leading with purpose and integrity, always grounding decisions in the mission to champion better health for all.
  • Building strong, trust-based relationships across sectors and mobilizing diverse partners toward shared goals.
  • Inspiring and developing teams, fostering a culture of performance, collaboration, and equity.
  • Championing GreenShield’s visibility and credibility as a social enterprise leader through thought leadership, sector recognition, and external partnerships.
  • Balancing social impact with business growth by embedding Cares initiatives into enterprise revenue strategies.
  • Leading with data and accountability, ensuring robust impact measurement, transparent reporting, and continuous improvement across all Signature Initiatives.
  • Navigating complexity with sound judgment, making high-quality decisions even with incomplete information.
  • Communicating with clarity and impact, whether engaging employees, partners, funders, or senior executives.
  • Driving innovation and continuous improvement while ensuring accountability and strong governance.

What we’re looking for

  • 14+ years of progressive leadership experience in strategy, health, social impact, or related fields.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver enterprise-wide initiatives with measurable outcomes.
  • Experience building and sustaining large-scale partnerships across government, community, corporate, or philanthropic sectors.
  • Demonstrated success leading medium-sized teams (10+), with a focus on culture, performance, and leadership development.
  • Demonstrated success in driving visibility and credibility for social impact organizations, including thought leadership, sector recognition, awards, or media features.
  • Experience leading large-scale reporting initiatives (e.g., annual impact reports) with a digital-first approach to stakeholder engagement.
  • Track record of mobilizing significant financial resources (direct and match funding) and linking social impact initiatives to enterprise revenue growth.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Policy, Health Administration, or a related field (required).
  • Graduate degree (MBA, MPA, MPH, or equivalent).
  • Additional training or professional development in leadership, strategy, or philanthropy/governance is considered an asset.

Knowledge

  • Understanding of Creating Shared Value (CSV) frameworks and how they inform social impact strategies.
  • Deep understanding of health sector dynamics, public policy, and the social impact ecosystem.
  • Strong grasp of business strategy, operating models, and innovation methods in both corporate and non-profit contexts.
  • Familiarity with philanthropic foundations, grantmaking practices, and match-funding models.
  • Deep understanding of impact measurement frameworks, including clinically relevant health outcomes, attribution methodologies, and dashboard reporting.
  • Knowledge of shared value and employee engagement strategies that activate purpose across a workforce.
  • Financial management knowledge, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting.

Abilities

  • Build, scale, and manage national or multi-region programs that deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Align and mobilize cross-functional teams while balancing enterprise and social impact priorities.
  • Make sound decisions with incomplete information and tight timelines.
  • Represent the organization externally with credibility and impact.
  • Establish governance and reporting that drive accountability and performance.

Skills

  • Strategic thinking and structured problem solving.
  • Executive stakeholder engagement, public speaking, and external representation.
  • Partnership cultivation, negotiation, and stewardship.
  • Team leadership, performance management, and talent development.
  • Clear, concise written communication and storytelling.
  • Financial and data literacy, including KPI analysis and reporting.
  • French is an asset.
