Labourer 2 – Wastewater Collection Maintenance

 

Highlights of the Job

 

EPCOR’s Wastewater Collection Maintenance team is hiring for multiple Labourer 2 positions at the Aurum site in Edmonton, AB:

  • Up to 1 permanent position
  • Up to 3 temporary positions (up to 11 months)

 

As a Labourer 2, you will support Responsive Maintenance, System Maintenance, and Inspections crews in day-to-day activities related to maintaining the wastewater collection system. This skilled role involves assisting in the operation and maintenance of heavy-duty drainage system cleaning and inspection equipment. Work is typically performed with minimal supervision, following written and verbal instructions from the Vactor Operator, MTV Camera Operator, or Labourer 3.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Under the supervision of a Team Leader your main responsibilities will include, however are not limited to:

 

  • Assist Service Maintenance, Vactor, or MTV Operators with tasks such as:
    • High-pressure flushing and clearing plugged mainlines
    • Pumping catch basins
    • Emergency drainage response
    • Mainline CCTV sewer inspections and conditional assessments
    • Responding to sewer trouble calls by televising and cleaning of services and WWC assets from residential and commercial establishments
  • Perform routine labouring work related to the operation and upkeep of Service Maintenance units, Vactor units, MTV units, and other equipment used in wastewater collection maintenance.
  • Performing detailed inspection of manholes and catch basins to provide asset information and to support decisions for maintenance or repairs. Inspections include detailed notes, pictures and completing an inspection report in GeoFit
  • Report asset and equipment deficiencies through IVARA, GeoFit, and to the Team Leader.
  • Ensuring safe set up/take down of equipment and that the worksite is left clean at completion.
  • Occasionally provide guidance or training to new or less experienced Labourers.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of tools, equipment, and drainage systems.
  • Ability to work different shifts on a rotational basis to meet operational needs.

Ability to work Standby on a rotation basis to meet operational needs as required.

 

Qualifications

 

You will have the following skills, qualifications and behaviors:

 

  • High school diploma (Grade 12), GED, or equivalent secondary education.
  • Ability to prove a strong understanding of EPCOR’s safety policy & procedures, work practices and standards which includes the application, care and use of PPE.
  • Sound knowledge of safe operating practices and proven ability to operate equipment safely and in compliance with regulations.
  • Experience:
    • Permanent positions: Minimum 1 year in Water/Wastewater Collection Systems maintenance.
    • Temporary positions: Candidates with less experience will be considered.
    • Preferred: Experience operating WWC Maintenance units.
  • Alberta Environment Water or Wastewater Collection Certification – Level 1
    • Candidates without certification must actively work toward achieving Level 1 within 24 months.
  • Licensing requirements:
    • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License.
      • 6 or fewer demerits
      • Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit
      • Driver Abstract may be required
      • Past infractions for unsafe driving may result in non-selection regardless of number of demerits on file.
    • Obtaining a valid Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement within 12 months would be required for Vactor or MTV
  • Current with all compliance training required within Water Services.
  • Intermediate computer skills (IVARA, GeoFit, SWP App, MS Office, Granite).

Wage:

  • Permanent: Job Rate $40.37 per hour
  • Temporary progression scale: $26.77–$35.34 per hour (based on experience)

Hours: 40 hours weekly

 

Other Requirements:

 

  • Must be at least 18 years old, legally entitled to work in Canada, and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of background checks (criminal, identity, education, credit) and professional references.
  • Technical/practical assessment may be required.
  • Fit testing for respiratory protection (half mask and full mask).
  • Ability to meet physical demands and work in all weather conditions; pre-placement medical and drug/alcohol testing may be required.
