Job Description

Reporting to the Sort Manager, the Sort Associate is responsible for providing friendly and courteous service to customers, donors and volunteers. This position works in a fast-paced environment that involves driving sales through engagement of customers, suggestive selling, and sharing product knowledge.

We are looking for someone primarily with weekend availability - 7:30am-4:00pm

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Efficiently & consistently sort and grade previously rough-sorted donations to determine the quality and most appropriate path for each item (ex: for thrift stores, Twice New e-commerce, More Store by WINS, seasonal, recycle, or disposal)
    • Refine sorted goods into specific product categories (ex: style, item type, etc.) and load into bins for holding/storage
    • Share expertise as required with other staff and volunteers regarding the quality of donations (grading)
    • Recognize product suitable for recycle, salvaging all possible product to divert it from landfill, reduce WINS’ environmental imprint’ and build WINS recycle revenue

    • Act as an ambassador for WINS both on and off the job
    • Maintain excellent donor, employee, and volunteer relations through positive, kind, and professional interactions with others
    • Engage and support individual and corporate group volunteers to ensure that their experience is fun and rewarding
    • Maintain ongoing communication with management on any issues or concerns

    • Positively engage in and comply with all WINS health & safety practices, procedures, and policies
    • Maintain a safe working area for all employees, volunteers, clients, and customers by ensuring workstations and aisles are clean, tidy, and clear of clutter
    • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education:

    • Grade 12 education, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:


Personal/ Professional Attributes

    • An understanding of and affinity for the WINS brand, mission, and role with our clients, customers, volunteers, donors, and community
    • Solid organization skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
    • Effective communication skills including proficiency in verbal and written English
    • Basic numeracy is required to keep counts and operate point of sale equipment
    • A welcoming and empathetic demeanor with an ability to build and maintain positive relationships with other employees and individual & corporate volunteers
    • Excellent customer service
    • Flexibility to comply with a work schedule with shifts throughout the week
    • Able to stand for long periods of time
    • Able to correctly and safely lift a minimum of 50lbs/23kg individually, and 100lbs/45kg as part of a team
    • Must be work-ready with CSA approved steel-toed safety boots
    • Must be eligible to work in Canada
