About the Role:

The RN PRN (Registered Nurse Pro Re Nata) plays a critical role in delivering high-quality nursing care on an as-needed basis within healthcare and social assistance settings. This position requires flexibility and adaptability to provide patient-centered care in the Day Surgery , Endoscopy , & PACU Units. Provides continuity and safety in patient treatment. The RN PRN is responsible for assessing patient conditions, administering medications, coordinating with interdisciplinary teams, and educating patients and families about health management. By responding promptly to fluctuating patient care demands, the RN PRN helps maintain optimal staffing levels and supports the overall efficiency of healthcare operations. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to improving patient outcomes and enhancing the quality of care delivered in dynamic clinical environments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas.
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program (Associates or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in acute care or related fields.
  • Must be willing to learn other areas of the OR, DSU, circulate during cases, and Endoscopy.
  • Must be able to transport patients to other areas of the hospital, ICU and Med/Surg.
  • Must be able to start IVs and work independently.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Experience working in specialized units such as ICU, ER.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on patient advocacy.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients based on established care plans and physician orders.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and document clinical information accurately.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely while observing patients for adverse reactions or changes in condition.
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and update individualized care plans.
  • Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment protocols, and post-discharge care instructions.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and provide appropriate interventions as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations, infection control standards, and organizational policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to maintaining a safe and supportive care environment.

The RN PRN utilizes clinical assessment and critical thinking skills daily to evaluate patient conditions and make informed decisions about care interventions. Effective communication skills are essential for coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and educating patients and families, ensuring clarity and understanding. Time management and organizational skills enable the nurse to prioritize tasks efficiently during variable shift demands and fluctuating patient acuity. Proficiency with electronic health records supports accurate documentation and seamless information sharing across care providers. Additionally, adaptability and problem-solving abilities are crucial for responding to unexpected clinical situations and maintaining high standards of patient safety and care quality.

This is a PRN position on the day shift.
0.1 FTE. This position is an hourly position which is eligible for overtime and shift differential pay, if applicable.
