Nature & Scope of Position
The Regulatory Analyst is the go-to subject matter expert responsible for providing timely and accurate advice to a growing operations department and client base. A strong sense of ownership and pride over principal duties is required. This role continually provides opportunities to work independently and collaboratively to achieve entire perspective results.
Principal Accountabilities and or Duties
• Research and respond to requests for complex information in a professional manner
• Analyze and interpret information received from clients or internal team members
• Perform complex classification for goods in all industries
• Lead the preparation and submission of duty drawback claims under CBSA guidelines
• Liaise with CBSA officers and clients to resolve claim discrepancies
• Prepare and submit applications for tariff relief, remissions, and other Agency programs
• Prioritize and complete work according to project demands, customs requirements and Willson standards
• Interpret and apply relevant legislation and policy framework
• Experience with CARM system
• Communicate effectively with internal and external clients
• Occasional travel may be required
• All other duties as assigned
Knowledge and Educational Requirements
· High School Diploma required. College and/or University Degree in Business Administration is an asset.
· CCS Certificate is required
· Minimum ten (10) years Customs Brokerage experience including three (3) years in a consulting, regulatory or similar professional services capacity
· Strong working knowledge of CBSA and PGA import requirements.
· CTCS and/or Professional Designation is an asset
· Working knowledge of MS Office Suite of products – command of Outlook, Word and Excel is required. Knowledge of ITMr4 an asset
· Strong communication skills – verbal and written is required.
· Problem solving, accuracy, attention to detail and analytical ability is required.
Decision Making Responsibilities
Work is of a specialized nature which is often analytical and involved.
· Judgment is required to analyze broad problems and develop solutions; sometimes where methods and policies may be inadequate or not established.
· Data or sample documentation often requires initiative and ingenuity to efficiently create, maintain or amend databases.
· Identify potential compliance concerns and escalate as necessary to mitigate potential liability to Willson International and its’ client base.
Contacts - Internal and External
Contacts are of considerable importance however may often be routine in nature.
Inside contacts may involve working with other departments including sales, service or brokerage operations. Exceptional interpersonal skills are required to build and maintain relationships between departments.
Outside contacts are of considerable importance and may include direct contact with prospects and new or strategies accounts. A successful Regulatory Analyst will create positive client interactions, provide exemplary service and continually cultivate client relationships.
