Job Description

Intermediate Interior Designer (6-Month Contract)

Company Overview

MU STUDIO is a Toronto-based full-service interior design firm specializing in residential and commercial designs. We are known for creating refined, timeless spaces that balance aesthetics with functionality and reflect each client’s unique lifestyle. As our studio continues to expand, we are seeking a talented and technically skilled Intermediate Interior Designer to join our team.

This is a 6-month contract position with the potential to transition into a permanent role based on performance and business needs. The role is primarily remote, with occasional site visits and in-person presentations required within the GTA.

Position Overview

The Intermediate Interior Designer will play a key role in supporting and collaborating with our principal designer and project team to deliver high-quality design packages.

The ideal candidate will have a strong spatial sense, advanced technical drawing ability, and a deep understanding of functional design. You should be capable of independently managing and producing full drawing sets, developing design details, and executing design intent with precision.

This position is ideal for a designer who can take ownership of medium-scale projects and work efficiently with minimal supervision, managing detailed drawings and material selections from concept to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed and accurate AutoCAD drawings, including floor plans, elevations, sections, RCPs, millwork, and construction details.
  • Translate designs into fully developed technical drawing packages for presentation and construction.
  • Collaborate closely with the principal designer and other team members to refine layouts, coordinate details, and ensure design intent is maintained.
  • Conduct site visits for measurements, documentation, and coordination as needed.
  • Assist in project coordination with vendors, suppliers, and trades to ensure accuracy and feasibility.
  • Prepare presentation materials such as concept boards, renderings, and finish schedules when required.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and space-planning skills to ensure each design is both functional and visually cohesive.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and CAD file management throughout the design process.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of professional experience in interior design, preferably in residential projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office. Enscape experience is a plus. Familiarity with Canva or other presentation tools.
  • Strong technical drawing and detailing skills, with proven experience producing comprehensive drawing sets.
  • Excellent understanding of space planning, functionality, and proportion, with the ability to visualize and communicate design intent clearly.
  • Solid knowledge of materials, finishes, millwork, and construction coordination.
  • Highly detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple deadlines efficiently.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate in a remote environment.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Candidates must be based in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), as site visits and in-person meetings are occasionally required.

Application Process

To apply, please submit your resume and portfolio showcasing relevant technical and design work to contact@mu-designstudio.com

This position offers an opportunity to grow within a collaborative and design-driven studio. Exceptional performance and initiative may lead to increased responsibilities and a transition to a permanent role with MU STUDIO.

Only candidates who submit both a resume and portfolio will be considered.
