Job Description

Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Safety Manager

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Safety Manager champions the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the organizations environmental, health and safety programs. This leader ensures ongoing compliance with OSHA, EPA, ISO 14001/45001 and other applicable regulations while cultivating a culture of safety, sustainability and preparedness. The EHS Manager conducts risk assessments, leads internal audits, guides external regulatory inspections, builds first-response capabilities and delivers training programs that minimize risks and environmental impacts.

Key Responsibilities
• Monitor, interpret and communicate changes in OSHA, EPA and other regulatory requirements; revise company policies and procedures to maintain compliance.
• Develop, implement and continuously improve an integrated EHS management system covering occupational safety, environmental compliance, fleet safety and contractor safety.
• Perform comprehensive hazard and risk assessments (e.g., Job Hazard Analyses, chemical exposure assessments) and create actionable plans to eliminate or control risks.
• Plan and conduct internal EHS audits and gap analyses; ensure the organization is audit-ready by maintaining audit schedules, records and corrective-action plans; collaborate with external regulators during inspections.
• Design, deliver and evaluate training programs on safety policies, hazard recognition, safe work practices, emergency procedures and sustainability; promote employee engagement in safety initiatives.
• Establish, train and lead first response teams for emergencies; coordinate drills, evaluate response effectiveness and ensure readiness for incidents such as fires, medical emergencies and hazardous releases.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses; determine root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce recurrence.
• Develop and oversee environmental management programs encompassing waste management, pollution prevention, recycling and resource conservation in line with sustainability objectives.
• Maintain accurate EHS documentation, including incident records, training logs, permits and environmental monitoring data; analyze safety and environmental metrics to identify trends and present findings to leadership.
• Communicate audit results, safety metrics and regulatory requirements to employees, management and external stakeholders; chair EHS committees and facilitate safety meetings.

Qualifications & Skills
• Bachelors degree in industrial hygiene, occupational safety, environmental science, engineering or a related field.
• At least five years of progressive EHS program management experience, preferably across multi-site operations.
• Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent; CIH, CHMM, CRSP or NCSO credentials and first-aid/CPR certification are advantageous.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA and relevant state regulations; familiarity with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
• Demonstrated leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence behaviors and foster accountability and safety culture.
• Proficiency in hazard analysis, risk assessments and use of EHS software for incident reporting, audit management and data analytics.
• Exceptional organizational and documentation skills; capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining thorough records.
• Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills to interpret data, identify trends and develop effective solutions.
