Your new company
Hays has partnered with a retail company which has been servicing our community for over 30 years and is owned by a large reputable organization. They have retail stores in four provinces and are slowly expanding to the United States. They are looking to bring on a Director of Construction to support the expansion of these new stores.
Your new role
The Director of Construction will report to the Senior Director, Engineering and Design and hold the responsibility of leading and supervising the engineering and construction team across North America. This business unit supports all construction activities for new store development and provides any needed maintenance services to existing stores and warehouses. This individual will oversee Regional Project Managers, and work with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure project design, constructability and successful completion of construction projects. They will ensure that all schedules, milestones, costs and other deliverables are executed within the appropriate timeline. They will be a key liaison with the organization's parent company, addressing any issues related to construction or development projects.
What you'll need to succeed
The successful Director of Construction candidate will have at least 10 years building retail, big-box, or supermarket-type stores in Canada. They MUST be able to communicate both verbally and written in English and Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin), and be able to work with a wide range of stakeholders. They will ideally have management experience, be an effective team player and have a high level of integrity and ethics. They will have strong proficiency in MS Applications and project management software. They must have familiarity with Canadian regulations and legal compliance with regard to construction and be able to construction plan, budget, schedule and follow construction timelines. Finally, the Director of Construction will be a problem-solver, critical thinker and be able to stay organized.
What you'll get in return
The Director of Construction will receive a competitive salary between $150,000 - $175,000 base with a bonus and full comprehensive benefits. Salary will be dependent on experience. You will work in an office 5 days a week and do regular site visits and attend external stakeholder meetings.
