Carrier Development Specialist Location Mississauga, ON L4W 5A6 : Overview: The
Carrier Development Specialist is responsible for developing the carrier base for NFI's third-party or fourth-party transportation services and for overseeing the provision of alternative transportation options for NFI's Domestic Transportation Services. This role reports to a Lead or Manager of Carrier Capacity. Responsibilities: - Researches and analyzes the suitability of carriers, in order to identify and secure carrier partners and capacity in specific market areas.
- Understand the requirements associated with the parameters for an acceptable carrier within NFI's standard carrier qualifications and use his discretion in analyzing whether such requirements are met by carriers.
- Develop a carrier base to strategically work on incoming RFP's and transactional business sourced via brokerage.
- Monitor market requirements by lane and capacity demand vs. supply in order to maximize efficiency and smooth network operation.
- Work with logistics brokerage to effectively move each order through the systems in a cost effective and efficient method with a focus on a high level of customer service.
- Speak with drivers on behalf of the carrier dispatcher to help ensure the NFI level of customer service is maintained with each brokered load.
- Use own judgment to negotiate network rates, spot rates, and capacity with carriers driving revenue growth by using industry knowledge and market pricing to leverage better pricing.

- Deploy RFP's to carriers, audit responses, analyze responses and then negotiate in the carrier selection process.
- Meet with carriers to focus on continuing needs as well as to better understand and effectuate the synergy with NFI Brokerage.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree preferred, with major in logistics, business, or finance
- 2-5 years of applicable transportation/logistics experience or recent college grad with Supply Chain / Logistics major
- Self-motivated, sales and customer service orientation
- Strong negotiation and relationship building skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Well organized with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Outlook, Word and Excel)
- Familiarity with DOT regulations (Hours of Service, cargo claims, etc.) helpful
- Time management skills
- Professional demeanor and strong work ethic
- Customer-focused team player
