Join Our Mission at Uncommon Schools!

Uncommon Schools is not just a nonprofit network of high-performing public charter schools; we are a community dedicated to transforming the educational landscape for students in economically disadvantaged areas. With locations in Boston, Camden, New York City, Newark, and Rochester, we are on a mission to close the college completion gap and prepare every student for a bright future. Our students consistently exceed national benchmarks, a testament to our commitment to their success.

We believe in investing deeply in our educators, providing weekly coaching, feedback, and professional development to ensure excellence in teaching and leadership. If you're ready to work hard, do good, and make a lasting difference, we want you on our team!

Your Role: Art Teacher

As an Art Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the creative minds of our students. Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Become a Leader: Ensure you are highly qualified and certified to teach in public schools.
  • Be Present: Engage with students from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
  • Supervise and Support: Maintain a safe and enriching environment during class, breaks, and transitions.
  • Participate: Attend events outside of normal school hours, including family nights and student performances.
  • Design Curriculum: Research and document art standards for grades K-4/5-8.
  • Teach Art: Inspire students with engaging art lessons Monday through Thursday.
  • Enrichment Programs: Lead after-school enrichment sessions two days a week.
  • Coordinate: Manage all aspects of the Art program, including vendor relations and record-keeping.
  • Collaborate: Work with classroom teachers to integrate art with core subjects.
  • Engage Families: Involve families in their children’s education through art concerts and events.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in meetings and curriculum development to enhance our programs.
What We’re Looking For

We seek passionate individuals who are committed to our mission and eager to support students’ social, emotional, and academic growth. Here’s what you need:

  • A strong commitment to the mission of Uncommon Schools.
  • Experience working with K-12 students in urban settings (1-2 years preferred).
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; certification is not required to start but must be pursued.
  • A collaborative spirit and a self-directed approach to learning and improvement.
Why Join Us?

Our people are what make us Uncommon. We offer competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits that support your health, wellness, and financial well-being.

Compensation

The salary for this role ranges from $50,000 to $64,700 , based on experience and qualifications.

Benefits
  • Generous paid time off, including sick time, holidays, and 10 weeks of paid breaks.
  • Extensive training and development opportunities.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
  • Financial planning support, including a 403(b) retirement savings program with employer match.
  • Mental health and wellness benefits.

At Uncommon, we believe that a supportive and welcoming environment helps everyone thrive. We are dedicated to building a diverse team that reflects the communities we serve, with over 70% of our staff identifying as people of color.

As an equal opportunity employer, we celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We provide reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities throughout the hiring process and in performing core job functions.
